H1B notice to move to Canada

Hello all,

For people that quit their jobs and moved to Canada, how much notice did you give your employer in the US? I’ve found some conflicting information online regarding this. Some say that resigning would mean losing your H1B status immediately which would mean we’d have to leave the country within 10 days. Others are saying that you can give a 2-week notice and once you leave, your employer can notify USCIS (if they want) to let them know that your employment has been terminated. I’m just not sure how to plan a move if/when I find a job. Being in the US for 15 years, I’d require at least a month’s time to move to any new city in Canada.

Thanks so much for providing advice. Looking forward to hear from those who have been in similar situations.

Depending on your I-94 expiry you may stay in USA for upto 60 days after your job termination : https://redbus2us.com/h1b-grace-period-60-days-uscis-rule-job-loss-you-quit-h4-ead-faqs/
