Resume Template

Hi,
Is there any specific resume template which I should follow?
and
Should my resume /CV be in word document or pdf format ?

I hear that many companies use an ATS software to filter out resumes, so wanted to know

I have limited knowledge on this, but based on the discussion with my Canadian friends and reading up online resources, this is what I have learnt:

  1. The resume should be short (US style, 1 to 1.5 page).
  2. Tailored resume is preferable, i.e. highlight skills and experiences relevant to the job that one is applying for.

I am not sure if ATS would filter out even between word/pdf formats, ideally it should filter based on keywords. I would prefer pdf for consistent formatting across different systems.

Hope others would fill in/correct as appropriate.
