Rule for sponsor to stay within Canada while spousal application is in progress

Questions about the requirement for the sponsor (sponsor is a PR) to be in Canada during the application:

  1. At what stage of the application does this requirement cease to exist if at all?

  2. I went to India for a vacation in 2021 for precisely 3 weeks. How soon can I go again in 2022?

  3. Is there an authoritative source to get clarity on this rule? It seems a little fuzzy in its definition of a vacation and till when it is applicable for etc. When does IRCC look at the sponsor’s record to make a determination about the application’s eligibility?

After you receive spousal sponsorship approval (meaning you are eligible to sponsor your wife), you can leave the country. My wife’s PR process took 6 months and I was in India for 4 months.
